The CCLG (Carrick Community Leisure Group) is a Scottish charity and it is the intention of the CCLG and its partner Carrick Sports Club operating in The Speakers to make this building as accessible as possible to as much of the community as possible. The charity has taken over the management of the building and have exciting and very ambitious plans for the future of the building and its uses.
The Carrick Sports Club will continue to operate a bar in the downstairs lounge in the evenings and weekends but under a new public house license that requires no membership making this facility, should people wish to use it, open to all under normal license rules and regulations . All profits from the bar takings etc will be put into the costs of running the building and supporting the charity's goals of helping the wider community, a truly different approach to the usual gains of alcohol sales.
The upper hall will be available to hire from the CCLG by the hour daytime or evening. This can be hired with or without the bar being open. If you have a band that wants somewhere to rehearse, a line dance club or anything else you can have the room for an hour etc, no bar required. If it's for a party, wedding or fundraiser etc our partner, Carrick Sports Club, will provide this and the licensed staff so you can simply enjoy your event.
During the day time the downstairs lounge and sports hall will be open to some target groups but not exclusively. These will consist of the OIR, OAP groups, carers and the people they support and anyone else that wants to come along, there will be no exclusions. There will be a whole range of things happening in and from the building and this will be based around a coffee shop feel and people will be encouraged to make this their second home. A range of activities will be developed to include indoor curling, darts, pool, snooker, table tennis, arts and crafts clubs, keep fit sessions of all levels from chair based to Zumba, film clubs, tv lounge, relaxation sessions, computer basics, chess , draughts and other traditional games , lunch clubs, dances etc etc. If it's not on the list it doesn't mean we can't set it up just let us know . Outdoor activities will include swimming, hiking, cycling, walks, theatre days, gardening and allotment, golf etc and again if it's not listed it doesn't mean it can't happen.
We would encourage individuals and groups to contact us either to take part or host events.
We plan in the short term to largely use the downstairs during the day and have carried out a small refit to enhance the environment.
The longer term plans will be to completely refurbish the entire building, installing a lift and creating a much more modern purpose built facility to compliment the range of activities that will be hosted here.
