The CCLG (Carrick Community Leisure Group) was set up as a charity to provide a hub for sports groups, to promote arts and heritage and to address issues within our communities around social isolation, inequality in services and lack of facilities.
Membership of the CCLG charity is not mandatory but it is free and it is from the membership that the trustees are nominated and members do have a voting right in the decision making process. People wishing to join and make donations would be welcome as the charity like any other has running costs but no pressure will ever be applied for this as we don't want people feeling excluded or isolated as this goes against our charity purpose.
Coffee Lounge & Drop In
Working with our partners the building is available during the daytime as a coffee lounge which is open to all Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm. Whether you just want to sit and meet a friend or join a larger group there will be something for everyone. With absolutely no pressure there will also be plenty of opportunity to volunteer or simply host a one off event.
To add to this we are working with VASA (Voluntary Action South Ayrshire), local OIR, OAPs, the health authorities and many other volunteer groups offering a wide range of activities from low impact exercise to arts and craft sessions and many more activities to take part in. Available every day will be darts, pool, table tennis, indoor curling, the use of board games and free play on the only snooker table left in Maybole. We have free wi fi and will be offering in the near future free use of computers and training if required.
Health & Well-being
Although we can't offer medical day care we do have foot care and a relaxation room where professionals are available at certain times to help and advise people on day to day matters. This will be an ideal environment for carers to come and relax with people in similar circumstances and enjoy your time off or indeed enjoy time with your partner or friend while you partake in different activities or simply enjoy a fresh coffee and scone.
The charity also manages the hiring of the function hall with the Carrick Sports Club supplying us with trained bar staff as required.
We plan to promote the building as a hub for all the local sports clubs and create an environment that is family friendly, aiming to make The Speakers a place that players and spectators of a whole range of sports can call home.
Arts & Heritage
We also promote Arts and Heritage and our function hall is available for bands to practise and again form a base that they can call home and showcase there talent. Maybole pipe band are already practising here on a weekly basis.
If you are looking for a space to fund raise for other charities or local groups we can offer space at very affordable rates and often free as long as the fundraising truly has a charitable cause. We can assist with planning a fund raiser as well as supply staff for the bar.
